The Islamic Da’wah Center is a distinctive Islamic institution in the heart of downtown Houston, established to provide a place for worship, Islamic learning, reflection, and exploration of Islamic history and culture. The center operates from a historic building that was originally constructed as the Houston National Bank in 1928 and was restored and renovated to become an Islamic center. It opened its doors in 2002 and houses what the organization describes as the first mosque in downtown Houston. In addition to serving as a mosque, the center promotes Islamic knowledge, cultural understanding, and peaceful engagement with people of different faiths. Its facilities include prayer areas, classrooms, meeting and gathering spaces, a library, and a Museum of Islamic Art featuring works representing different periods and regions of Islamic civilization. The organization describes its mission as promoting Islamic principles, history, and culture while providing a destination for those see
