American Muslim Cemetery is the first dedicated Muslim burial ground in Illinois, founded with the mission to provide free, Sharia-compliant burials for all Muslims, regardless of financial means. Managed by the Center for Islamic Teachings and Community Development (CITCD), the project follows the “masjid model”—meaning the land is held as a waqf (endowment) and grave sites are not sold. Located at 1120 E. Joe Orr Rd., Lynwood, IL 60411, the 31-acre site is approved for Muslim green burial practices and designed to serve tens of thousands of Muslims in the region.
